GCRP Conference at House of Lords/British Library, 28th-29th October 2011

BASAS members are invited to a conference to mark the end of the Leverhulme Trust-funded research programme on Gendered Ceremony and Ritual in Parliaments, directed by Professor Shirin Rai (University of Warwick). The conference will be held in London in the House of Lords and British Library on 28th-29th October 2011. The research programme includes a study of the national parliament of India, as well as those of South Africa and the UK. Please follow the links for more details about the conference and the programme. The conference includes high profile speakers, including plenary speakers the Rt. Hon. Harriet Harman QC, MP, Shadow Secretary of State for International Development and Shadow Deputy Prime Minister, and Dr Frene Ginwala, first Speaker of the post-apartheid parliament of South Africa, and a welcome address by Prof. Lord Anthony Giddens (House of Lords).
